Patriot Day, September 11th

Brethren and Friends,

Today is Patriot Day, and marks this date in 2001 when terrorists attacked us on our own soil, killing 2,977 innocent people in multiple coordinated attacks.

By Presidential resolution (Public Law 107-89), we are all asked to fly our United States flags at half-staff, at home and at the office. We are also asked to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46AM Eastern Time (7:46AM Central), the time at which the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Tonight at Stated Meeting we will further honor those souls who lost their lives on this tragic date 11 years ago.

Calendar This Week

Brethren,
Here are the events for this week:

Monday, Sept 10 @ 7:00PM. Duck Creek Lodge No. 1419 Stated Meeting. Visit our “sister Lodge” up the street. If you’ve never visited Duck Creek, they are a bunch of great, friendly Masons, who really enjoy having people visit. Their supper is at 6:30PM. 600 N. 4th Street, Garland.

Tuesday, Sept 11 @ 7:00PM. Stated Meeting. This date is a special one and is called Patriot Day. I don’t need to tell you the significance of this date, or why we commemorate it. Please join us a stated meeting. Our Chaplain will have a presentation. Supper at 6:00PM.

Saturday, Sept 15 @ 7:00AM-2:00PM (or longer). Garland Masonic Bodies Blood Drive at Garland 441. As all our Gift of Life blood drives, this benefits the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. There will be free breakfast provided, as well as light lunch. If you are interested in helping with preparing breakfast and/or lunch, please let me know. We also need volunteers throughout the day to help direct blood donors to the right areas, help with set-up and clean-up, etc. If you haven’t given blood lately, please come out and drop a pint for the kids!

Sunday, Sept 16 @ 12:00-3:00. Ice Cream Social. This is a family and friends events, so please bring your wives, children, grandchildren, non-Masons, etc. Come right after church services, or come by after your Sunday dinner for desert. This is a come-and-go event, so drop in and visit with the other Brethren and their family, and stay as long as you like. We’ll have the TV tuned to football in Motley Hall if you need to get your NFL fix while you’re visiting. And you’ll still be able to get home in time to watch the Cowboys beat up on Seattle at 3:05.

Gavel Travels to Washington Lodge Tonight

Brethren,
A reminder that we’re making a “full assault” on Washington Lodge tonight for the purpose of capturing the District 14 Gavel and bringing it back to its rightful home in Garland.

Washington eats at 6:30 and opens their Stated Meeting at 7:30. We are meeting at Garland 441 at 6:00 to carpool. If you’d rather meet us there, their lodge is one block north of Beltline and one block west of 75, right under the water tower.

We will be wearing slacks and 441 lodge shirts tonight.
